Places of Interest in Ganjam

Siddha Bhairavi Temple

One of the most sacred temples of Odisha is Siddha Bhairavi Temple which is located in Mantridi village – some 18 kms away from Brahmapur town. Over last few decades this temple has emerged as one of the important Shakti pith shrines for devotees residing in Odisha and also Andhra Pradesh. It is dedicated to Goddesses Bhairavi, one of the local deities of Odisha and from whom this temple obviously derives its name.

And besides main idol of Bhairabi, idols of 108 Hindu gods also reside in this temple. With so many idols residing in here, this temple is obviously very big and grand. Besides, lot of natural scenic beauty surrounds this temple. the temple wear festive look during Makar Sankranti and Durga Puja festival with devotees thronging from nearby regions. All in all, this temple has all the virtues to make it one of the must visit religious destinations of Odisha state.

Taptapani is famous healing pilgrimage center of Odisha state. Take a dip inside hot pond of sulphur water which is said to be blessed with miraculous power, as water inside it always stays hot. But there is more to this place than this miraculous hot water pond. The flora and fauna of the surrounding areas too add charm to this place. In fact large numbers of visiting devotees are indeed attracted by soothing and blissful ambiance of this place.

Tara Tarini Temple

Tourist destinations in GanjamTara Tarini Temple is unlike any other temple of Odisha state. The main reason being that it is located on the top of a very beautiful hillock and this beautiful hill itself resides in the lap of mother nature. But more than anything else, it is an immensely sacred temple. It is one of the most important shakti peeth temples of India. However unlike most other Shakti petha this temple is not dedicated to one but two goddesses – Tara and Tarini, from whom this temple and hillock derives its name.
Besides religious sacredness and importance, this temple also boosts immensely rich history. This temple has been in existence since the days of Mauryan Empire, which officially makes this temple one of the oldest temples of Odisha state. The temple is visited daily by countless devotees and tourists from across the country. It would not be an exaggeration to sum up that Tara Tarini Temple is one of the most special religious destinations of Odisha. But more importantly it is pride of Ganjam district.

Tampara Lake

Tampara Lake is another fine picnic spot of Ganjam. Here you can enjoy boating in the midst of scenic nature. Lake’s scenic surrounding also encompasses vast stretches of cashew plantations, where locals and tourists usually enjoy stroll. This place is indeed like nature’s escapade where you and your loved ones are sure to enjoy some stress free time.

Gopalpur Sea beach is only beach of Ganjam and is one of the hottest tourist hotspots of Odisha state. Chilika Lake

Ganjam is directly connected only via train with rest of India. Brahmapur Railway Station and Chatrapur Railway Station - two important junctions of Odisha state - directly connect Ganjam to almost all the important cities of India. These cities include: New Delhi, Ahmadabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Cuttack, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Puri, Vishakhapatnam, Kolkata and Raipur.
Besides, one can also reach Ganjam via flight. Biju Patnaik Airport located in Bhubaneswar is connected to all the important cities of India. Bhubaneswar is connected to both Brahmapur and Chatrapur by hordes of daily buses and trains. Both train and rail journey takes roughly 3 to 4 hours.

Where to shop in Ganjam ?

All the shopping activities of Ganjam are mainly concentrated in Chatrapur and Brahmapur towns – two most developed urban towns of Ganjam District. Although as of today there are no shopping malls here, but there are definitely hordes of retail shops that sell everything and anything under the sun. But when you’re travelling in Ganjam then these two items should be in your shopping list: silk sarees and handicraft items. These two are specialties of Ganjam. Brahmapur is in fact called as ‘silk center of India’. Qualities of Brahmapur’s silk sarees are simply unmatched and unparallel.
